Bespoke Analog Studio Equipment, Custom Built in the EU
VintageMaker designs and handbuilds analog summing mixers, monitor controllers, audio switchers, and transformer amplifiers for professional studios. Every unit is custom-configured to your interface, signal flow, and studio layout — not a fixed-format product pulled from a shelf.
Since 2010, each VintageMaker unit has been built to order in the EU using precision components, with full design approval before production begins.

Passive vs. Active Summing — Which Should You Choose?
| Feature | Passive Summing | Active Summing | 2-in-1 Switchable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Circuitry | Precision resistive network — no active components | Integrated gain stage with vintage transformer | Both circuits in one chassis |
| Sonic signature | Transparent and pure | Harmonic weight — analog console character | Switchable between both |
| Gain recovery | Required — via interface preamps or external pre | Built-in — no external preamp needed | Switchable via front-panel toggle |
| Components | Vishay Dale military precision resistors, 0.1% | Genuine vintage Neumann / Lawo / Filtek transformers | Best of both in one bespoke unit |
| Best for | Home and professional studios using quality interfaces | Engineers wanting instant analog console weight | Studios wanting maximum flexibility |
How a Custom Build Works
1. Consult & Configure
Every build starts with your requirements — channel count, connector types (XLR, TRS, DSUB), interface model, and sonic goals. Standard configurations cover most studio setups; fully custom layouts are available for complex routing requirements.
2. Design Approval
A detailed layout plan is provided for your approval before production begins — including rear panel connectivity, front panel ergonomics, and any custom aesthetics. Nothing goes into production until you confirm the design.
3. Handcrafting — 10–16 Working Days
Each unit is hand-assembled using 0.1% precision components. Build time is typically 10–16 working days after design approval, depending on configuration complexity.
4. Shipping & Integration
Units ship from the EU worldwide. Full integration support is available to ensure the unit works correctly with your existing interface and signal chain.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is analog summing and why use it?
Analog summing combines multiple audio channels outside the digital domain using a precision resistor network. Signals interact physically in the analog domain before any AD/DA conversion — producing wider stereo imaging, improved instrument separation, and natural harmonic cohesion that digital summing cannot fully replicate.
Do I need a high-end interface?
No. Any audio interface with multiple balanced line outputs is compatible — UAD Apollo, RME, Antelope, Focusrite, MOTU, and others. Each VintageMaker unit is custom-calibrated to your specific interface output voltage, so no additional hardware is required.
Passive or active summing — which should I choose?
Passive summing is the most transparent option — it uses your existing interface preamps for gain recovery and works with any interface. Active summing provides instant analog console character with built-in vintage transformers and no external gain recovery required. A 2-in-1 switchable option is available for studios that want both.
How many channels can I configure?
From 4 to 96 channels — any configuration is available. Unused inputs have no effect on audio quality, impedance, or signal integrity. Connector types (XLR, TRS, DSUB, or mixed) are specified per order.
Can I use DAW software instruments alongside hardware?
Yes. Route DAW software instrument outputs from your interface’s line outputs into the summing mixer alongside hardware instruments. Both paths combine on the same analog bus — giving software instruments the same headroom and bus interaction as hardware sources.
What is the build and shipping time?
10–16 working days after design approval. Each unit is built and calibrated to order. Rush build options are available on request. Units ship from the EU worldwide.
Can I request a fully custom configuration?
Yes. Custom channel count, connector types, front panel layout, engraving, and routing logic are all available. Contact VintageMaker with your studio specifications to begin the design process.
