Hear the Band Up Close: Passive & Active Summing Mixer Impressions

The effect of the passive and active transformer summing amps can be summed up like this: it’s as if you were listening to a concert in a large hall, and when you switch it on, it feels like you’ve moved several rows closer to the stage. The stereo field opens up, the band seems to surround you, the reflections change and become clearer — it’s as if more of the direct sound reaches your ears. The overall mix becomes less “muddy,” and the accumulated reverb no longer masks the production.
So far, I’ve had the same impression with every mix I’ve tried...
And really — who wouldn’t want to sit a few rows closer to the band? :)
