Each stereo channel maintains its own independent signal path, with signal and ground switching designed to prevent unwanted interconnections between non-selected I/O paths.
6 In / 1 Out – 1 In / 6 Out Professional Bi-Directional RCA Stereo Audio Switcher
Professional Bi-Directional Passive RCA Audio Switching
The VintageMaker 6 In / 1 Out – 1 In / 6 Out RCA Stereo Audio Switcher is a precision-built, fully passive analog audio routing device designed for high-end Hi-Fi systems, professional recording studios and mastering environments.
Its bi-directional design allows the same unit to operate in two configurations:
- 6 In / 1 Out: Select one of six stereo RCA audio sources and route it to a single output.
- 1 In / 6 Out: Distribute one stereo RCA source to one of six selectable output destinations.
Both operating configurations use the same mechanical switching system. Only one signal path is selected at a time.
Generous RCA Connector Spacing 25 mm (0.98″) Center-to-Center
The RCA jack layout features a generous 25 mm center-to-center spacing, both horizontally and between the left and right channel rows. This spacing accommodates larger RCA plugs, including connectors with wide knurled metal grips, allowing comfortable plug installation and removal without interference between adjacent connectors.
The enclosure width is designed around this spacing to ensure practical accessibility and compatibility with larger high-end RCA connectors.
Break-Before-Make (BBM) Mechanical Switching
At the heart of the unit is a mechanical Break-Before-Make (BBM) rotary switching system.
Unlike Make-Before-Break switching, BBM disconnects the currently selected path before connecting the next one. This prevents momentary contact overlap between adjacent switch positions.
The switching architecture keeps non-selected signal paths disconnected, providing controlled selection between connected analog audio equipment.
Independent Signal Paths – No Shared Audio Ground
The switching architecture is designed to keep all non-selected I/O connections electrically disconnected.
Unlike conventional RCA selector boxes that may use a permanently common audio ground, this design switches signal and ground connections independently.
There is no shared audio signal ground between non-selected I/O paths. The RCA signal ground is also electrically isolated from the metal chassis.
Each left and right stereo channel follows its own independent signal path, maintaining channel separation and preventing unwanted electrical interconnections between connected audio equipment.
Signal Ground Isolation from Chassis
A key design feature is the electrical isolation of the RCA signal ground from the metal enclosure.
The signal ground is not directly bonded to the chassis. Signal and ground connections are switched independently, rather than relying on a permanently shared audio ground between all connected equipment.
This construction helps avoid unwanted ground interconnections through the switcher and provides a controlled signal-ground arrangement for complex Hi-Fi and studio setups.
Fully Passive Analog Signal Routing
The VintageMaker RCA Stereo Switcher contains no active audio electronics, buffers or amplification stages.
- No external power supply required.
- No active signal processing.
- No electronic switching circuitry.
- Direct mechanical signal-path selection.
- Independent switching of signal and ground.
The passive architecture maintains a direct analog connection through the selected switching path without introducing an active electronic stage.
Designed for Hi-Fi and Professional Studio Applications
Suitable for selecting between multiple analog audio sources or routing a single source to different destinations.
Typical applications include:
- High-end Hi-Fi source selection.
- DAC, CD player and analog preamplifier switching.
- Phono and line-level source selection.
- Professional studio analog monitoring.
- Mastering and analog equipment routing.
- Comparing different analog audio components.
- Switching between multiple stereo amplifiers or audio systems.

System Note
The switcher is designed to prevent unwanted signal and ground interaction within the unit itself. However, noise, hum, ground loops, or crosstalk originating from other equipment or additional connections elsewhere in the audio system are outside the switcher’s control.
A. Galvanically Isolated RCA Connectors (Recommended)
RCA connectors are isolated from the chassis. Both signal and signal ground are switched using a 4-pole BBM rotary switch (L signal, L ground, R signal, R ground). This provides full galvanic isolation between unselected inputs, minimizing unwanted signal leakage and crosstalk. The chassis ground is connected only through the selected signal path. The output ground remains connected to the chassis for proper EMI/RFI shielding.
B. Non-Isolated RCA Connectors (Other Brands)
RCA signal grounds are connected to the chassis/common ground. Only the L and R (TIP) positive signal lines are switched. This simpler configuration uses a shared signal ground, which can allow unwanted signal leakage and crosstalk between unselected inputs.
