2×2 Desktop Filtek – 4× Transformer Color Amplifier with Transformer – Processed/Original Signal Switch
A purpose-built Filtek–Neumann / Haufe transformer color amplifier designed for 2×2 stereo signal processing and line-level summing applications.
Unlike a conventional Active/Passive configuration, the Processed/Original Signal switch does not introduce signal loss when the transformer stage is bypassed. Instead, it allows you to directly compare the original transparent signal with the signal processed through the Filtek–Neumann Haufe transformer amplifier stages..
Features
- 2×2 stereo signal architecture
- Four (4) Filtek–Neumann / Haufe transformer amplifier stages
- Processed / Original Signal switch for direct transformer bypass
- 2× AUX line inputs – TRS 1/4″ or XLR balanced L/R, selectable from the drop-down menu
- 2× balanced outputs – TRS 1/4″ or XLR, selectable
- 21-step precision level control
- Dual independent amplifier stages with 2× Haufe output transformers per stereo path
- Power LED – selectable color
- Power switch
- External power supply – EU plug included*
- Desktop format
*A simple travel plug adapter may be required depending on your region.
Processed / Original Signal Mode
The front-panel switch provides two fundamentally different signal paths:
ORIGINAL SIGNAL
The transformer amplifier stage is bypassed.
There is no attenuation of the input signal in this mode. The incoming signal passes transparently through the unit without the transformer processing stage.
This makes it possible to use the unit as a clean reference path and compare the original signal directly against the transformer-processed signal.
TRANSFORMER PROCESSED
The signal is routed through the Filtek–Neumann Haufe transformer amplifier stages.
At approximately Step 15, the transformer amplifier is driven close to its nominal operating level. This allows the unit to re-amplify the approximately −25 dB signal reduction created by a passive resistor summing network, while simultaneously introducing the characteristic harmonic content and tonal coloration of the Filtek–Neumann / Haufe transformer amplifier.
The result is a combination of level restoration and transformer coloration, rather than simply adding gain to the signal.
Important: With this feature, there is no signal volume difference between Original Signal and Transformer Processed at the calibrated reference step (nominally Step 15; depending on the individual unit, this may be Step 14 or 16). The exact calibrated step is set during final testing and confirmed to the customer after production.
Applications
- Signal Process / Passive summing mixer make-up / re-amplification
- Filtek–Neumann / Haufe transformer coloration
- Analog harmonic enhancement
- Adding depth and dimensionality to DAW mixes
- Stereo bus processing
- Line-level signal processing
- Comparing transparent and transformer-processed signal paths
- Adding vintage console-style analog character
